SRG Global was contracted for the project, which required the strengthening of the existing joints and the repair of the chute floor concrete.
SRG Global building and remedial general manager Adam O’Dea said about 4000 man-hours were deployed to complete the works.
Lake Eildon has a capacity of 3.3 million Ml, which is six times the size of Sydney Harbour.
The enlargement, including the dam wall and spillway, was completed in 1955.
Goulburn-Murray Water project manager Nick Pearce said he was glad the works were finished in good time, in readiness for spring operation.
“We are pleased to have the repairs completed well ahead of irrigation season,” he said.
“The works were completed within a fenced area of land not accessible to the public, so there was minimal disruption to the community and users on the lake while the project was being carried out.”
G-MW infrastructure delivery services general manager Warren Jose said the outcome of the project would benefit the lake’s various user groups.
“Lake Eildon stores water to supply to irrigated properties along the Goulburn River. It is also a popular tourist destination, with people visiting the lake to fish, swim, and water ski,” he said.
“SRG Global has done a fantastic job in difficult conditions. The repairs will ensure the lake remains a fantastic asset to the community for years to come.”
Lake Eildon is currently at 68 per cent capacity which is the most water it has held at the start of August in almost a decade. The spillway was opened and tested when the dam reached capacity in 2011 but low flow releases are a regular part of water management.
