She picked up the accolade at the Able book awards held at Crown Plaza on October 8, which celebrated its strengths in educating young people about emotional intelligence.
Showing the diversity of her professional talents, Ms Mort is standing out as an outstanding contributor to education in both consultative positions and written resources.
“Of all the books I have published and all the awards I have received, this is the special one because this book is so very special,” Ms Mort said.
“The important message reiterated again and again throughout its pages is that every little person should be reminded that they are important, special, safe, and loved and that it is 100 per cent okay to feel emotions and to show emotions.
“Yet just as important, I want to teach them how to understand and work with their emotions, to feel empowered.”
Ms Mort is now up for four more National Awards for her work in multiple fields including best children’s illustrated book, coach of the year, new product Innovation and the 2022 Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards.
Drawing on her background in psychological science and as a registered and qualified teacher of 20 years, Kylie uses Little People Big Emotions to support, not only the little people themselves, but other parents and educators building the mental health and resilience of young people.
Further to this, having a personal connection with ADHD, deepened by additional University research within her most recent degree, Kylie’s latest book focuses on support strategies to assist with the feelings of overwhelm, anxiety and emotional dysregulation that are hallmarks of this diagnosis.
Her resources encourage individuals to embrace their emotions and respond with resilient and positive strategies.
It seeks to educate children and parents through providing proven processes that will help calm and motivate young people.
The book also includes a dedicated study guide to assist teachers and carers in thoughtful and constructive responses to the narrative.
Through her ongoing work with these junior resources and the free app How to Write with Kylie Mort, she hopes to support young people of all ages through their entire schooling journey.
