Kyabram SES is holding its Community Open Day on Saturday July 27 at the Kyabram headquarters where members of the public can get to know members of their local SES team and see if they could see themselves in the bright orange uniform.
The day will allow members of the community to come together and learn about the role that the SES plays in ensuring the safety and well-being of Kyabram.
This event is part of a broader campaign with Rochester, Rushworth, and Echuca SES units to attract volunteers due to a shortage in the Campaspe SES region.
Rushworth, Rochester and Echuca have already held events to great success according to SES community resilience co-ordinator Layton Miller.
“We had an Open Day in Echuca ... from that we got probably six to eight people that are genuinely interested in joining which is fantastic,” Mr Miller said.
“The conversations we’ve had with those people that are interested are whether they want to get on the tools, and actually be on the ground, or be behind the scenes, both of which can be done.”
Controller Paul Octigan leads the charge at Kyabram SES and said it will be a good opportunity for the community to have a peek into what the organisation does.
“We're excited to invite the community to join us for our Open Day," he said.
"It's a chance for everyone to get to know their local SES team, learn about emergency preparedness, and have some fun."
The event will feature activities for all ages, including live emergency response demonstrations, interactive equipment displays from SES, Ambulance Victoria, and Victoria Police, emergency preparedness sessions, and a visit from mascot Paddy Platypus.
There will also be popcorn, fairy floss, a lucky door prize, and other fun surprises.
Join the Kyabram SES Unit at 4 Kuhle Rd on Saturday, July 27, between 11am and 3pm for the Community Open Day. Don't miss out.
