Kyabram and district community groups to share in $30,000 worth of grants

NINE community groups and organisations from Kyabram and district have been delivered a share of over $30,000 by the Campaspe Shire Council’s 2020-21 Community Grants Program.

In the Community Support category, $4000 was granted to the Kyabram Lawn Tennis Club, $3987 to the Stanhope and District Men’s Shed, $3800 to the Tongala Lions Club, and $4000 to the Girgarre-Stanhope Rail Trail project.

Kyabram Lawn Tennis Club grants officer Von Morris said the club's funds would go towards a brand new maintenance mower.

“Our current one is on its last legs so it needs replacing. We’ve got a quote for a $7000 mower, $4000 of which is coming from this grant and the Kyabram Club have also generously donated $2000,” she said.

“We suffered quite a bit not being able to run our Easter tournament which is our major fundraiser every year . . . so we're very grateful towards the Campaspe Shire and the Kyabram Club for contributing towards the new mower.”

In the Events category, $750 was granted to the Kyvalley Swimming Club, $750 to the Girgarre Open Garden Festival, $4000 to the Stanhope Show and Shine, $1500 to the Tongala Cruisers Club, $4000 to the Girgarre Moosic Muster, $5000 to the Kyabram Fauna Park’s Fun Day and $3000 to the Kyabram RV Country Music Festival.

Kyabram Fauna Park general manager Lachlan Gordon said the funding would be used to pay for additional activities, vendors and promotion of a future Fun Day.

“Kyabram Fauna Park is delighted to receive a $5000 grant from Campaspe Shire Council’s Community Grants Program for our Fauna Park Fun Day event,” he said.

“We’re hoping to run the Fun Day during the September school holidays but will be guided by government advice regarding COVID-19 restrictions.

“Our 2019 Fauna Park Fun Day was a big success with more than 2000 people enjoying activities such as jumping castle, petting zoo, face painting and pony rides as well as all the usual Fauna Park fun.

“Campaspe Shire Council is a key partner of the Park and we greatly appreciate their support.”

Campaspe Shire Mayor Adrian Weston said the Community Grants Program supported the development of community ventures that benefited residents across the shire.

“Financial support through Council’s grant program helps our not-for-profit sector progress initiatives which empowers volunteers to deliver a broad range of projects to our community,” Cr Weston said.
