While demand for Greater Shepparton’s L2P learner driver program continues to grow, support — in any form — is vital, and the Kiwanis Club of Mooroopna has answered the call.
The community-based L2P program assists learner drivers between the ages of 16 and 21 who don’t have access to a supervising driver or an appropriate vehicle in gaining the experience required to get their probationary driver’s licences.
L2P Greater Shepparton program co-ordinator Jenni Bowles was a guest at the January Kiwanis Club of Mooroopna meeting, where she spoke about the importance of the program in the local area.
She addressed the need for funding to assist with professional lessons, vehicle maintenance and program support, as the program doesn’t receive full funding from the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning.
At its next meeting, the Kiwanis Club of Mooroopna agreed to donate $2000 towards the learner driver program.
Ms Bowles met with the club earlier this month to receive the donation and thank members.
“The Kiwanis Club of Mooroopna members work tirelessly at raising funds every year in the community and to have them support the program and community further is wonderful,” she said.
“We are very appreciative of the extra funding to help with more lessons and help for our learners to be safe drivers once they gain their Ps.
“We value every dollar donated to us.”
