Alongside Shepparton’s Dr Ravi Bhat (AM) for significant service to medicine and to rural psychiatry and Kialla’s Brian Leslie (OAM) for service to the dairy cattle industry, other community stalwarts were recognised.
Nagambie’s Patrick John McNamara was awarded an AM for significant service to rowing, to the Parliament of Victoria and to the community through a range of roles.
Avenel’s Alexander (Sandy) John MacKenzie also received an AM, for significant service to the people and Parliament of Australia, to education and conservation.
Cobram’s Francis Wallace was awarded an OAM for service to the community through a range of roles, including with Moira FoodShare, Invergordon Football Club and Invergordon Fruit Growers Corporation.
Established in 1975, the Order of Australia awards are open to all Australians, with recipients nominated by community members for their positive impact on the community.
Governor-General David Hurley congratulated the Australians recognised in the honours list.
“Recipients have made substantial contributions and had a significant impact at the local, national or international level,’’ he said.
“Some are volunteers, others have had a remarkable impact in professional roles — many have done both.
“They are all inspiring and their service is valued by us all.
“Collectively, they speak to who we are now and who we can be in the future.”
