A design Josie created while attending the Kurrajong Yallambee day program has been chosen as one of two winners in the World Down Syndrome Day Lots of Socks competition.
Each pair of socks sold to raise money for Down Syndrome Australia features one sock with Josie’s design, and one sock with fellow winner Mark Polonsky’s design.
Josie’s design features a guitar and musical notes on a yellow background, inspired by her love of Keith Urban.
Mark’s blue sock features a cuddly koala to celebrate Australia.
The socks were released in time for World Down Syndrome Day on March 21.
Josie’s mum Elizabeth McAndrew said a number of family members and family friends already have their orders and are proudly showing off their new socks.
The win in 2025 came as a bit of a surprise for Josie, her family and her supporters, as her design was actually created a few years back.
Kurrajong Lifestyle Choices - Deniliquin coordinator Matthew Johnson said everyone at Kurrajong has been celebrating Josie’s achievement.
And they encourage people to purchase their socks and raise awareness and money for a good cause.
“By wearing these new socks, you’re doing more than just showing off a cool design,” Kurrajong said.
“You’re raising awareness and promoting inclusivity, acceptance, and diversity in support of down syndrome.
“Let your feet do the talking and engage in discussions about World Syndrome Day and the importance of inclusivity.”
