The former Shepparton dancer took to the stage for just the second time with Ms Scott with this week’s theme ‘My Jam’ — which saw the professionals choreograph numbers to the celebrities’ favourite songs.
Mr Garner said it was clear Ms Scott had become the crowd favourite, having received a huge roar from the audience after their dance number.
‘‘Poor Denise was another nervous wreck ... it sometimes gets to her out the back; we’ve got to calm her,’’ he said.
But Ms Scott looked confident on stage, performing an ‘office party’-themed number with Mr Garner,
Mr Garner was complimented by judge Sharna Burgess on his ability to choreograph a routine that made Ms Scott shine.
‘‘The whole room was with you the whole way,’’ Burgess said on the judging panel.
Mr Garner said he thanked Burgess after filming wrapped.
‘‘We’ve got so many obstacles to deal with, but at the end of the day you’ve got to make her look good,’’ he said. ‘‘I’m glad it came across.’’
The pair scored 14 from the judges and Mr Garner said it was an emotional goodbye to the first eliminated contestant, Miguel Maestre.
‘‘To have Miguel go was quite emotional ... he’s the energy of the group,’’ he said, but added it was a relief Ms Scott did not get eliminated during the first round.
‘‘We’ll see if we can get her through another week,’’ he said.
‘‘I hope the country can see she’s improving.
‘‘I told her Shepparton is behind us.’’
