FoodShare is seeking donations of food staples to help address food shortages for people who need it most.
To help meet the need, the charity partnered with Southern Cross Austereo in holding a live food drive on air from the front lawn of the Triple M and Hit 96.5 radio stations on Friday, December 8, between 6am and 9am.
In that time, FoodShare said 268kg of food was donated.
The drive is ongoing, with smaller donations able to be left at the radio station from Monday to Thursday between 9am and 4pm.
For larger bulk donations, people can contact FoodShare on 0432 517 329 to arrange a suitable time to make drop-offs to its warehouse in Mooroopna.
FoodShare said local food manufacturers and growers provided regular support via food donations, but some staples were difficult to source, and food drives helped meet the demand for these products.
“This is an easy way for you to help spread some festive cheer to those less fortunate in your own community, and the radio station has made it easy to donate,” Shepparton FoodShare executive officer Glenn Peric said.
“With no other service offering this support locally, we are very grateful for this community support that enables our service to keep its doors open and not only meet the daily food relief needs of our community but to also respond during times of emergency and crisis and recovery.”
FoodShare’s highest current priorities include UHT milk, cereal, pasta sauce, sugar, muesli bars, two-minute noodles, Vegemite, jam, bottled water, shampoo and conditioner, and body wash.
Festive treats for someone in need would also be appreciated.
