Mr Ridd was presented with his certificate of life membership on Sunday, February 16 at the Seymour Senior Citizens Hall during a monthly dance event, having been officially made a life member on Tuesday, February 11 at the club’s Annual General Meeting.
Honorary secretary of Seymour Dance Club Lois McMaster said Mr Ridd had played a pivotal role in the club for over two decades.
“Ian has been an integral part of our club for many years, and he has held the position of MC/dance co-ordinator for the past 25 years,” Ms McMaster said.
“His contributions have been invaluable.”
Ms McMaster said Mr Ridd had held the position of dance instructor for several years alongside his wife Jenny, in addition to his other roles at the club.
In his various roles, Mr Ridd has been at the forefront of the club's music selection, not only for practice and monthly dances, but also for demonstration dancing held at aged care facilities across the region, including Karingal and Barrabill aged care homes in Seymour, and Nagambie Health's aged care hostel.
Mr Ridd also sets up the speakers and equipment to play the music for these events each time.
“Ian is always willing to help learners to dance and over the years has successfully introduced many people to dancing,” Ms McMaster said.
“His efforts have helped keep members of our club dancing during trying times, especially during the COVID era.
“Apart from this, he and his wife Jenny attended other dances in both our area and surrounding districts, plus many other places around Australia, fostering relationships with dancers from these areas who then travel and support our own dances.”
Ms McMaster said Mr Ridd’s commitment to the club acted as a motivator for other members.
“Ian Ridd’s continued involvement as a life member will be an inspiration to current and future members, and will greatly benefit our club,” Ms McMaster said.
