Hall committees at both the tiny district communities responded to the Facebook call-out, made during the event, which has become known as the social media flood, for volunteers to fill sandbags.
Sporting organisations, workplaces and individual community members descended in enormous numbers to the sites, some with very little notice, to support the work of the hall committees in responding to the flood events to the east and west of their own communities.
Heather Henderson co-ordinated the effort at the O’Dea Road Koyuga Hall, while Cath and Russ Pell were among those at the forefront of the Wyuna effort.
