Each device in the toolkit collects crucial data, enabling residents to precisely identify and tackle inefficiencies in their home’s energy and water consumption.
The comprehensive kit features an energy-saving thermometer, Power-Mate Lite energy meter, lux meter, water flow measuring cup, high-tech thermal camera and a user-friendly instruction guide.
The toolkit’s thermal camera is a game-changer for homeowners, revealing hidden insulation gaps and sneaky draughts and detecting unexpected wildlife in roofs or walls.
All home electrical appliances can easily be plugged into the Power-Mate Lite energy meter to measure power use.
This helps users identify high-energy-consuming appliances and guides usage changes or upgrades.
The kit comes with easy-to-read instructions on how to use each tool and how to take measurements.
To complement the toolkits, libraries offer specially designed observation sheets, which allow borrowers to record and analyse their findings.
Greater Shepparton City Council sustainability and environment team leader Paul Dainton encouraged residents to borrow the toolkit and take action.
“Understanding energy and water usage in your home can be challenging, as your bills don’t show which appliances are using the most energy,” he said.
“Borrowing the home energy efficiency toolkit is a great opportunity to take advantage of these specialised tools to identify areas of improvement at home and where you might be able to save some money.”
