But as the temperature rises, the need to be informed about potential fire hazards rises.
To keep people updated on what to do during these events, the Hildene Fire Brigade has announced an open day for the public.
Jake Kociancic, a volunteer for the brigade, detailed what activities would be available on the day.
“We’ll have a virtual reality fire extinguisher that people can use and practise fire extinguishing on, we’ll have a fire behaviour burn table so we can watch some fire behaviour,” he said.
“We also have a live fire demonstration ... members of the public can watch firefighters respond to a domestic fire, which will be exciting.”
He emphasised it was important for the public to be aware of this, as staying informed was the best advice he could give in dealing with the severe heat and the oncoming drought in the later season.
“Follow all the advice. You can get some advice on the open day, or jump on the website and get the information from there, but it’s all about preparation and staying informed,” he said.
The Hildene Fire Brigade Open Day will be held on October 8 from 9am to 1pm.
The event will not only be an open day but also a recruitment drive for the CFA, and a fundraiser for a BigFill.
A BigFill is a vehicle like a ute with a big pump on it used to transport water quickly.
“We’ve been lucky enough to secure some funding for that through VESEP (Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program), but we do need to fundraise a third of the amount,” Mr Kociancic said.
He said more information about the fundraiser was on the CFA website and the brigade’s Facebook page.
