Thousands of families across Australia struggle to afford the ongoing and necessary expense of buying nappies, including families in Shepparton.
The need for nappy aid has only intensified during the current cost-of-living crisis, according to organisations tackling the issue.
The Nappy Collective’s Clean Bums for Little Ones campaign aims to make a dent in this growing demand for help.
The group’s website states: “We’re calling on communities to pass on their leftover or new disposable nappies so that all little ones can be clean, happy and healthy.”
The group, which collects donated nappies year-round, has a goal of collecting 500,000 nappies across Australia during the current drive.
The campaign runs between Monday, April 28 and Friday, May 23.
Local Nappy Collective volunteer Reginna Vasi said she hoped the campaign would help spread awareness of the group’s ongoing efforts in the area.
“Locally, our biggest thing is to get donations, but also to get people involved,” Ms Vasi said.
Ms Vasi said the Shepparton area needed more businesses to sign up as collection points, so community members had more spaces to drop off nappy donations.
She said the local need outstripped the current donations.
Recently, Ms Vasi said, there were no donations locally to help families in the area and nappies had to be brought in from Melbourne.
“We’re quite a big community, we can definitely do it ourselves,” she said.
“I think the word is still not completely out there.”
The Nappy Collective accepts new or leftover disposable nappies, and new reusable nappies still in packaging.
The group also accepts financial donations.
The Nappy Collective has drop-off points for donations at the following locations in Shepparton:
- Baby Bunting Shepparton, located at the Riverside Plaza 22/8025 Goulburn Valley Hwy, Kialla
