For those who menstruate, period products are often inaccessible due to poverty, domestic violence or other difficult living situations.
Share the Dignity believes that providing period products to those in tough situations will give them one less thing to worry about.
Local Share the Dignity committee member Glynis Kelly said all donations remained local.
“[Period products] shouldn’t be as expensive as they are,” she said.
“We have stories of women who have to choose socks over a pad or a tampon because they just can’t afford them.
“We do this campaign in March and hope that everyone shopping will pick up a period pad and pop it in the box.”
The Dignity Drives are held in March and August every year and at the end of each month, all donations are distributed to local charities.
The charity also runs ‘It’s in the bag’ in November, where people can donate necessary hygiene products to be placed in handbags.
Once the handbags are filled, they are shared among local organisations, which are able to pass them on to those who need it most.
Last year, Share the Dignity distributed a total of 225 bags to Echuca Regional Hospital, Njernda, Crossenvale Community House and Anglicare.
Donations for the Dignity Drive can be dropped into the Share the Dignity donation box at any Woolworths store.
All donations must be in their original packaging, including pads, tampons, reusable pads, period undies, menstrual cups and incontinence products.
