The Murray Bombers claimed a thrilling 56-55 triumph against Shepparton United on Saturday to go with their 40-39 win against Seymour in round two.
It was the perfect way for Gina Pearson’s charges to bounce back from a maiden defeat of the year against the Shepparton Swans before the interleague bye.
‘‘We were pretty disappointed with the performance against the Swans after such a good start to the season,’’ Pearson said.
‘‘But I think the way it’s playing out, it’s going to be a great season.
‘‘There’s nothing between the top eight teams really and it will come down to who can bring their game on the day.
‘‘We weren’t able to bring our game against the Swans, but we did (on Saturday).
‘‘It probably played out similar to what we expected, we’re both high-scoring teams.
‘‘It was tightly fought out, although I still feel like we’ve got some room for improvement.
‘‘We need to work on our defensive pressure and making sure we’re working hard around the outside of the circle.
‘‘Their goalers made it tough for us but we worked hard to get tips and intercepts where we could.’’
Echuca led at every change against the Demons, with a 16-11 first term setting up the eventual victory.
Holly Long, Casey Frame and Claudia Mawson stood out for the Murray Bombers in attack, as did A-grade debutant Charlotte Groves.
‘‘Our attack end was great, Holly Long led up brilliantly in wing attack,’’ Pearson said.
‘‘Casey’s experience and workrate set up a lot of play for Claudia as well.
‘‘Charlotte Groves started in centre, she came up from 17-and-unders for her first game.
‘‘She’s been on the bench previously but started yesterday and didn’t miss a beat.
‘‘She’s quick and agile and it’s only her first year in 17-and-under netball so she’s got another one to go.
‘‘I’m really pleased with our depth and being able to give these younger players some opportunities (is great).’’
