Kyabram has made a habit of reminding rival teams just how far they have left to reach the pinnacle of the Goulburn Valley League.

That exact message was sent to Mansfield on Saturday.
The building Eagles will head back to the drawing board this week after copping a 72-point smashing from the Bombers, a one-sided result made possible by eight unanswered goals in the second half, with Mansfield’s only goal of the half coming with mere seconds to play.
Formidable forward line weapons Kyle Mueller and Kayne Pettifer were firing on all cylinders, with the star duo kicking seven and five goals, respectively, to give the Mansfield defence absolute nightmares.
The Bombers seemed up for it early, booting the game’s first four goals before the Eagles got on the board through Jacob Howes, ahead by 24 points at quarter-time.
But Mansfield worked its way into the contest and halved the second term, with goals to Joel Sanford and Lachie Williams cancelling out majors for Mueller and Brad Mangan.
However, the Kyabram machine roared into life with Pettifer (two) and Mueller kicking the third quarter’s only three goals, before a complete procession ensued, with five goals to one in the last highlighted by another three to Mueller.
Leading the way for Kyabram was in-form Mick Mattingly, with Lachie Smith, Jake Reeves and Nick Coulstock also playing well.
Mansfield got a big game from Lachie Christopher, Tas Clingan and Andrew Browne, while Howes finished with two goals.
The Bombers are 6-0 while the Eagles are 3-3, sitting just outside the top six in seventh.
Perhaps one of the more interesting storylines on Kyabram’s inevitable march back to the post-season is the battle for league goal-kicking honours; three-time reigning winner Pettifer has 24 for the season, but Mueller is just one back on 23, with 13 in his past two games.
