With a rich selection of Goulburn Valley’s finest young talent at coach Stuart Vance’s disposal, the Suns looked to come out guns blazing, but unfortunately were edged 1-0 at the hands of Springvale White Eagles away from home.
The White Eagles sunk their talons into the Suns midway through the first half and sent them packing with zero points.
The loss had Vance searching for answers among his squad.
‘‘Harun Aktas was probably the only player with pass marks, (I was) really disappointed in the performance of our more experienced players, they really need to give us more consistency,’’ Vance said.
‘‘All in all, we did not perform anywhere near the standard expected.’’
One positive Vance touched on was the impact some of the younger players had once entering the game.
‘‘The boys that were on the bench all contributed when they came on which was pleasing to see, Darcy Keck was lively when he came on,’’ he said.
This weekend Box Hill United visits McEwen Reserve, with the Suns looking to turn up the heat and show some of the dominance displayed in the lead up to the season.
‘‘Next week we need to be more assertive, play with confidence as we did all through pre-season,’’ Vance said.
‘‘We will have some difficult decisions to make regarding team selection off the back of this disappointing start.’’
