GV Health’s COVID-19 PCR testing site will close permanently from Saturday, December 17.
The testing site at the Acute Respiratory Clinic at Graham St in Shepparton has been the main testing facility in the region during the pandemic.
Demand for PCR testing has decreased as rapid antigen tests have become the main way people test for COVID-19.
GV Health Public Health Unit operations director Cherie Holland said the testing service had played a vital role in the region’s COVID-19 response and health protection strategies for the region.
“People are now able to use rapid antigen testing to identify COVID-19,” she said.
“Testing kits are readily available through expanded accessibility programs throughout the region.
“We want to acknowledge and thank all the health professionals and staff who have done incredible work at the GV Health Acute Respiratory Clinic COVID-19 PCR testing site to serve the Goulburn Valley region.”
The GV Public Health Unit has RATs available for community groups.
