Seven Shepparton churches have banded together to run the program, which will provide more than 10 crisis accommodation beds from June to August.
The shelter will keep people off the streets throughout the coldest and darkest months of the year, while engaging them with vital homelessness services.
Guests will also be offered meals, support and friendship from volunteers.
While the program was paused during COVID-19, it's back on track, with organisers calling urgently for donations and volunteers.
Kiwanis Club of Mooroopna is just one organisation to answer the call, donating $2000 to the cause.
“It's not just a shelter, it's also going to link people into services,” club member Murray Shields said.
“When we heard about how the program was going to work, we wanted to get involved."
Project manager Gordon Johnson said the Kiwanis Club donation would go towards stretcher beds and bedding.
The committee has a fundraising target of $50,000 to get the program up and running.
People can sponsor the purchase of items, including stretcher beds for $150 and hygiene packs for $50.
“A lady messaged us yesterday wanting to donate $20,” assistant project manager Kim O'Keeffe said.
“All money means the same, and it all helps us towards our goal.”
Shepparton homelessness set to surge by 3.6 per cent this year
The Federal Government has already delivered $5000 for volunteer training, while Greater Shepparton City Council has provided a $5000 grant for the trailer, which will transport beds and other equipment between the shelters.
Shepparton businesses have also been contacted, with corporate sponsorship including diamond ($3000), gold ($2000), silver ($1000) and bronze ($500).
More people accessed BeyondHousing’s homelessness support service than ever before in 2020, with numbers tipped to continue climbing as house and rent prices keep rising.
“Shepparton's homelessness numbers are some of the highest in the country, so we need to prioritise this issue,” Ms O'Keeffe said.
About 100 volunteers will be needed to run the program, with roles including venue co-ordinators, shift leaders, shift workers, cooks and drivers.
“If you don't know what you'd like to do, contact us and we'll find you something to do,” Ms O'Keeffe said.
Volunteer training will be conducted by Stable One, which created the winter shelter model.
