The works will improve the VISY Community Stadium and Shepparton Sports Stadium, including enhanced amenities, roof renovations, and modern equipment such as new shot clocks and scoreboards.
In addition to stadium upgrades, a new modular multi-use change room facility will be built next to the VISY Community Stadium, catering to the growing number of user groups in the area.
A pedestrian crossing will be installed along with improved shared path connections and landscaping to enhance walkability throughout Shepparton Sports City.
The Yahna Gurtji shared path is one that’s slated for expansion, adding 2385m to the existing network and connecting Gemmill’s Swamp and KidsTown.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali expressed enthusiasm about the works, noting their impact on supporting the region’s vibrant local sports culture.
“Council is thankful for the $3 million funding received through the Victorian Government’s Council Support Package,” he said.
“The upgrades to both stadiums and Sports City will help increase our capacity across elite sporting events and community competitions to continue to position us as the sporting capital of regional Victoria.
“We are continuing to work towards major upgrades at Shepparton Sports Stadium, but these smaller enhancements will help improve the current facilities for user groups.”
The timeline for these projects has been strategically planned to ensure minimal disruption to the community.
Most of the Shepparton Sports Stadium improvements will be made from January to May 2025, while renovations at VISY Community Stadium are slated for December 2024 to April 2025.
Works at Shepparton Sports City will begin in January 2025 and are expected to be completed by April 2025.
