Go Yarra! Go the Lions! Up the mighty Hoppers and well done Bears!
These were some of the cheers coming from hundreds of local football club supporters lining Belmore Street at 1pm today.
Two blocks from Orr Street to Witt Street were packed with Yarrawonga, Mulwala, Rennie and Tungamah football and netball club supporters, many in local club colours on the eve of grand finals.
Hundreds of people were out there wishing all players the best for the Ovens and Murray, and Murray league final matches for season 2024.
The support was also there, of course, for Tungamah and Rennie teams who had their grand final victories the previous weekend.
Leading the big parade on his tractor decked out in the blue and white colours was strong Pigeons’ supporter Malcolm Browning.
Tractors, and players in trucks and boats, made for the traditional, brilliant line-up of vehicles.
Parade MC Andrew Mott introduced the drivers and players, and interviewed Yarrawonga’s senior coach Steve Johnson.
“There’s a big rivalry between Yarrawonga and Wang Rovers – it’s something we’re looking forward to and being successful,” Johnson advised the crowd.
Mulwala vice president Toby Sissons introduced the drivers and the teams from the Lions.
“It was a fantastic turnout. It was great see everyone come along and celebrate with the clubs on their achievements.”
