This is part of Goulburn Valley Water’s initiative to provide all towns with a public drinking water supply by June 2023.
Five new stations were installed last year in various locations, such as Kyabram’s Drum Park, Tatura Park, Craigmuir Lakes in Mooroopna, Toolamba Recreation Reserve and the entrance to the Murchison-Rushworth Rail Trail.
According to GVW managing director Steve Capewell, providing a drinking water station in every town was essential to GVW’s 2018-23 Price Plan.
“The customers have shown their appreciation and value for such initiatives, and it is essential to provide them with access to drinking water in community spaces to help them stay hydrated while on the go,” he said.
Hydration stations have been installed in two central Shepparton locations since 2014: outside GVW’s head office on Fryers St and the Welsford St Water Treatment Plant near Victoria Park Lake.
Three more stations were built in the Shepparton Sporting Precinct adjacent to the netball, hockey and soccer facilities.
In Campaspe Shire, the Kyabram District Health Service partnered with GVW to provide the Stanhope community with a healthy drinking option.
The service’s Stanhope health client service manager Mica Rosenberg said the station had been a great hit with the locals, with many walking groups filling their drink bottles at the station.
It is also an opportunity to promote healthy drinking habits in younger community members, as the local primary school has a “water only” policy.
Other hydration-station sites include Tongala Fitness Hub (at Tongala Primary School in Miller St), Tatura’s Frank Howley — Lake Bartlett Walking Track, Rushworth Public Reserve Park, Riverside Gardens at Murchison and Judd Park at Merrigum.
