Supermarket owner Ben Dealy said he was alerted by the security system at 3.15am Thursday morning.
‘‘They jimmied the front door apart, but fortunately didn’t get away with much, just tried to get into the cigarettes and as an after thought grabbed some powerades and off they went,’’ Mr Dealy said.
He said it was not the first time the cigarette cabinets had been damaged.
‘‘People think they can get into them, but you just can’t get into them, especially in the time limit that they have,’’ Mr Dealy said.
The shop’s CCTV footage of the alleged male offender continues for one minute and 20 seconds.
‘‘From his body language I don’t think there was anyone else — from what I could see he made his own decisions,’’ Mr Dealy said.
He said the male appeared to be a tradesman.
‘‘He had a fairly recognisable Makita tradesman bag, tradesman shorts with visible tan lines,’’ Mr Dealy said.
Earlier the same morning CCTV footage captured a separate incident at Numurkah Bearings and Hydraulics, where two males can be viewed stealing some products before driving off in a white dual cab ute with an open tray.
‘‘At this stage we believe the two incidents are not related,’’ Nathalia Police Station Commander Sergeant Bruce Rigoni said.
Anyone with information about the incident are urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
