This will be welcomed by race fans, but may just be overshadowed by GVAC’s decision to significantly cut gate prices by about 20 per cent for the season.
With families’ disposable income being under pressure by the current financial squeeze, the speedway club’s focus on providing affordable Saturday night entertainment will be good news for many.
Gate prices for spectators will drop to just $20 for non-member adults, with children 12-16 years at $10 and kids under 12 free.
A family entrance, admitting two adults and two children, is only $50 and aged and disability concessions can enter for $15.
GVAC adult club members get in for $10 and child (12-16) members are $5.
The Rushworth Speedway season will kick off on October 19 with AMCA Nationals as the feature visiting class.
Popular GVAC club classes, consisting of GV Opens, GV Production, GV Ladies and GV Juniors will run at all meetings.
The GV Auto Club’s most prestigious meeting, the Paul Benton Memorial for GV Opens and GV Productions is scheduled for January 11.
The women will have their chance at glory on May 9, with the Marg Beattie Memorial event.
Several major events are scheduled, with the “Labour Day Double” for VSC Sprintcars being the jewel in the crown for Rushworth Speedway this season.
April 4 will be the Victorian Championship for 3 litre sedans.
Increasingly popular Street Stocks will get a trial run as a feature in November, in preparation for the VSSS Round 3 on February 22.
Other feature events include the Ray Welsh Memorial for SDAV Hot Rods in April, the GOSA Colin Young Memorial in May, and Super Sedans making their only appearance at Rushworth Speedway on December 7, with the second round of the VSSA series.
Other visiting classes include popular open wheelers GP Midgets and also Compact Speedcars.
The thumping big V8 Late Models are scheduled for April 25.
A full race calendar is available on the Rushworth Speedway Facebook page.
In other news, GVAC has recently joined Speedway Australia, the national body which controls speedway racing in most of Australia.
"The newest member of the Speedway Australia family is Rushworth Speedway in Victoria, the home of the Goulburn Valley Auto Club," a Speedway Australia spokesperson said.
"The new committee led by president Pat Bourke have made the decision to affiliate for the 2019-20 season and we welcome the opportunity to work again with one of the long-standing speedway venues in the state.
"We wish the Goulburn Valley Auto Club all the best for the season ahead and look forward to seeing their progress as the year unfolds."
