GOTAFE’s Seymour Trade Training Centre will provide hands-on training for in-demand trades with courses in plumbing, carpentry, engineering, building and construction.
The centre, located next to Seymour College, had been idle for years, only being used one day a week by the college students undertaking VET courses.
It has been upgraded to provide a wider group of people the opportunity to up-skill into the career they desire.
The centre’s workshop area now allows students to use the latest power and hand tools, with exposure to modern practices and technology.
The works were made possible with a $2.1 million government investment.
Up-to-date machinery ensures students are exposed to industry-specific equipment, including a belt sander, thicknesser and surface planer.
Interactive screens provide a modern learning environment benefiting students, staff and industry.
The construction industry is the largest employer in Mitchell Shire and GOTAFE is the largest vocational education provider in regional Victoria.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the centre would give people the skills for the jobs they wanted, benefiting the local economy, attracting new people and building future opportunities for the region.
She said the investment delivered incredible value for money.
“It shows what you can do when you are passionate about delivering opportunities for young people,” she said.
