GO participants bloom at flower show

Goulburn Options participants were treated to a spectacular day out at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show on March 26.

Participants from the Literacy and GO Green groups were witness to the beautiful displays, having travelled to the city by train with support workers.

The excursion offered more than just a feast for the eyes; it provided a valuable opportunity for participants to cultivate their independent living skills and personal growth.

Participants were able to be involved in the entire planning process, including in budgeting and developing the travel plan, boosting their confidence in getting out into the community.

GO support workers reported that many of the participants were looking forward to the excursion for weeks, noting that Paris G. was particularly excited for her “dream trip”.

Support worker Gaylene V. said Carol S. was also very keen to attend.

“She’d been up since 3am in excitement and could not wipe the smile off her face all day,” Gaylene said.

The day was filled with diverse activities: participants explored stunning exhibits, planted their own take-home plants, admired steel artwork sculptures and even spotted celebrity gardeners.

They were thrilled to see Costa from Gardening Australia and presenters from Better Homes and Gardens.

A delicious lunch and a look at the flower stalls rounded out the memorable outing.
