Local sporting history was celebrated at a gala event to induct 2021 nominees into the Greater Shepparton Sports Hall of Fame.

Sporting luminaries gathered at the Eastbank Centre in Shepparton on Friday, February 4, to recognise the achievements of individual competitors, teams, administrators and volunteers who have made a significant contribution to their sport.

Hall of Fame inductees included golfer Jarrod Lyle who won the hearts of fans, and the respect of fellow competitors around the world for his feats on the course and his courage.

Mr Lyle battled acute myeloid leukaemia as a 17-year-old but fought back to establish himself as a professional golfer on the US PGA Tour.
He came back again after a recurrence of the disease in 2012 but succumbed when it returned again in 2018, aged 37.

Footballers Steele Sidebottom, Steven King, Adam Yze and Stephen Tingay were also elevated to Hall of Fame status.
BMX champ Leigh Egan, motor racing legend Bryan Thomson and aerobics star Emma O’Keeffe were also recognised.
