Goulburn Valley Grammar School Year 12 student Sarah Roberts took the top position with an ATAR of 99.8, securing the dux of her class.
"We saw the score and just started jumping around and screaming,“ she said.
“I didn’t really know how to react.”
At Notre Dame Secondary College, Abby Smythe took out the top mark with an ATAR of 99.55.
She said it took a while for the shock to wear off.
“It was better than I thought it was going to be,” she said.
“But I felt proud of it.”
Greater Shepparton Secondary College student Amie Forster was pipped at the post by dux Halil Isguder, but she was still excited to achieve the score she wanted.
“I got in the course I wanted, which is all I needed,” she said.
After a restless night, she said she was relieved to see her marks were what she wanted.
“I was dreaming about it and thought I got the ATAR and I didn’t,” she said.
“It was a nightmare.”
All three are headed to university to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
Sarah and Amie are both off to Melbourne next year to study Biomedical Science and Abby is scheduled to start a degree in Environmental Science.
There were 11 students at Goulburn Valley Grammar School that received an ATAR score above 98, and two students with VCE study scores of 50.
There were more than 13,000 students that graduated with a study score of 40 or more out of 50 this year, and state Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said all should be proud of their efforts.
“I want to say a huge congratulations to every single Year 12 student — the final hurdle in two years of hard work and dedication at a really challenging time,” he said.
More than 50,000 students graduated with their VCE this year and 14,000 will receive their VCAL.
