One of the things that defines the Good Friday Appeal is the thousands of volunteers on fire trucks and standing at traffic lights, in pubs and clubs and at hundreds of events shaking the Good Friday Appeal tins as people open their hearts and wallets to support The Royal Children’s Hospital.
With Good Friday the primary day for raising money for the Good Friday Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal, many towns in our region are hosting different events to provide support for this very worthwhile cause.
This Good Friday, April 7 the following events will be held around the region.
Yarrawonga
The Yarrawonga CFA and SES will again conduct the street drive, visiting each area of Yarrawonga in the firetrucks with sirens resounding while members will be walking those streets rattling tins.
The CFA and SES ask residents to come out of their homes into the streets as the vehicles pass to meet them and donate to this worthy cause.
The street drive will begin around 8/8.30am with the volunteers to gauge how the day is going to what time they will be in each area of the town.
At some stage throughout the day, the volunteers will also head down to the river and caravan parks to visit people who are visiting and camping in the area that may want to donate.
Any children or parents that would like to get involved in the tin rattling, meet at the CFA station (Woods Road) at 8am on Good Friday morning.
The Yarrawonga Yacht Club is also raising funds for the Children's Hospital as part of their major fundraiser with plenty on offer.
From 2pm – 8pm there will be fantastic live music from the famous Bali Band as well as an Easter egg hunt, woodfire pizza, food vans, and a big Easter raffle from 3pm.
There will be a silent 'Sports Memorabilia' Auction with viewing and bids to occur at the Yacht Club on Thursday from 5.30pm - 7pm and Good Friday from 2pm - 6.59pm (no bids after 7pm). There is plenty of great items on offer so bring your cash for a great cause.
Visit the YYC Yarrawonga Yacht Club Facebook page to view auction items.
In the meantime, a number of businesses around Yarrawonga including CMCU, which has been heavily involved in the appeal for many years, are collecting donations for the Good Friday Appeal with collection tins aligning front counters.
Mulwala
Mulwala Fire and Rescue will again be taking part in the annual Good Friday Appeal for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Donations can be made at the station from 9am on Good Friday and everyone is most welcome.
Bundalong
Every year the Bundalong Tavern along with some dedicated locals from the Bundalong Tavern Assist Committee get together and raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
This year the tavern is going to donate to the Good Friday Appeal, Variety Bash and the Bundalong Community Assist to assist those children suffering with illnesses as well as helping their hometown.
From 4pm a family fun day will be held with pig races to kickstart the day before a sportsman’s night is held with AFL footy legends Dane Swan, Wayne Carey, Billy Brownless and Ricky Nixon to tell all of their inside stories about life as an AFL player while audiences get the chance to ask questions.
The night will be hosted by John Rombotis and will start at 5:30pm with tickets just $15 (kids under 12 free).
Tickets can be purchased at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/good-friday-evening-with-dane-swan-and-billy-brownless-tickets-577752552437
