However, it also recognises that this is not possible for all students in a mainstream classroom.
Indie School offers an alternative pathway designed to provide understanding and support in response to each student’s individual needs, regardless of their schooling history or circumstances.
At the school’s official opening, state principal Anna Bownds welcomed the guests and discussed Indie School’s goal of empowering young people to overcome their personal barriers that have led to disengagement from education.
Board chair Kevin Poulton spoke of the joy directors saw in the company and their commitment towards their governance and compliance responsibilities.
City of Greater Shepparton Deputy Mayor Anthony Brophy attended on behalf of the Greater Shepparton City Council and spoke about his own experience of education and his pathway that led to where he is now.
Attendees had the opportunity to hear from two students who talked about their own experience of Indie School and how they liked the smaller class sizes, no uniform and extra support they received.
There was the official cutting of the cake and everyone joined in morning tea, which had been prepared by the Year 11 students as part of their Certificate II in Kitchen Operations in their VCE VM studies.
Indie School would like to thank everyone who has provided support and those who attended the official opening.
