In the latest round of Transgrid’s Community Partnerships Program, 70 community groups have received grants for a wide range of initiatives.
Among them is an allocation to the Edward River Arts Society to build a workshop space to “provide a safe and accessible place for community members to connect”.
“The funding received from Transgrid means we can confidently provide a calendar of events and workshops, while improving the connection between artists, volunteers, visitors, and community groups for which we are extremely grateful,” ERAS vice president Ginny Reid said.
Other local grants recipients are:
• Booroorban Sporting & Social Club for community enhancements.
• Moulamein Bowling Club Limited for the mental health awareness event held last month.
• Moulamein Preschool Inc to invest in the day care service.
• Moulamein Public School P & C for programs that enrich student learning.
• Moulamein Racing Club Inc for its chair project.
• Moulamein Swimming Club Association to provide a safer pool facility.
• Outback Theatre for Young People for the Museum of the Missing project.
• Wanganella District Social Club to replace hire equipment.
• Woomera Aboriginal Corporation for the Deniliquin-based Bunjil Bridge proejct, symbolising a connection between family members, bridging the gap between children in care and their families
• Yanco Creek and Tributaries Advisory Council Inc for its Nursery for Nature project, which supports wetland planting for restoration.
Specific funding amounts have not been released.
Transgrid executive general manager of stakeholder, regulatory and corporate affairs Maryanne Graham said the grants demonstrate the company’s commitment to “maximising social and economic benefits in local communities across our network and in areas where new clean energy transmission projects are being delivered”.
“These not-for-profit groups are the lifeblood of their local communities, and we are proud to support initiatives that make a positive difference in the lives of local residents.
“This round of grants will fund facilities, equipment, services, events, programs and activities, helping to empower not-for-profit groups and volunteers and enrich the local communities they serve.
“Transgrid is pleased to be contributing to the long-term sustainability of regional New South Wales and leaving a lasting and meaningful legacy in local communities.”
Transgrid is the company working to establish an overhead powerline network between Jerilderie and Swan Hill, known as the VNI West line.
A proposed route has been submitted, and environmental impact statements are being undertaken.
