The Andrews Government is delivering better support for teachers in Victoria, with Education Minister Natalie Hutchins announcing an investment of more than $130 million over four years to help schools meet their time-in-lieu requirements under the Fair Work Act.
The package will support schools to continue offering camp programs, so students can develop important skills they learn from these camps and help schools and teachers deliver the formative experiences they receive.
On-call payments to all staff who are required to attend camps overnight are also a part of the investment, with an extra $200 per night or four hours of pay for being on-call while at camp.
Ms Hutchins said the investment would mean schools could confidently plan camps and excursions.
“Extra support for staff at school camps shows we are serious about backing our teachers and their efforts to provide students with extracurricular activities they will remember for a lifetime,” she said.
The government’s investment brings the total support for extracurricular activities in Victorian schools to $299 million, following an increase in the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund in the Victorian 2023/24 budget.
