Friends of Hospice continues fundraising efforts

Friends of Hospice raised $7000 for not-for-profit community palliative care service GV Hospice through its Afternoon Tea with Friends on October 11.

The event, at Shepparton East Football Netball Club, was booked out with 150 attendees, who came together to enjoy an array of homemade cakes, biscuits and finger sandwiches.

“The main thing people missed was seeing everyone, talking and the big occasion,” Friends of Hospice committee member Glenys Holyman said.

“I’ve seen people today that I haven’t seen in four years.”

She said there was no question of why GV Hospice deserved support.

“It’s a wonderful organisation,” she said.

“When you think of what the hospice does; all their care is free and the government only funds the nine-to-five work they do,” she said.

All funds raised help support GV Hospice to provide nurses on call 24 hours, seven days a week.

GV Hospice executive manager Wendy Ross thanked Friends of Hospice for its support.

“Their passion, drive and support makes a huge difference,” she said.

Friends of Hospice has been fundraising for GV Hospice since 1992, raising more than $300,000 across 30 years.

GV Hospice supports community members with life-limiting illness, providing symptom management and psychosocial support, lending equipment, and helping clients, their families and carers to live life well.
