This 12-hour course is for adults to support other adults experiencing a mental health problem or a crisis.
This course will be held over two days at the Deniliquin RSL Club on Thursday, February 29 and Friday, March 1 from 9am to 4.30pm both days.
Deni MHAG president Alison Thurne said the data tells us one in five Australians will experience a mental health problem in any given year.
This means it’s highly likely that we all have friends, family members or colleagues who have experienced or are experiencing a mental health problem – whether we know it or not.
“Stigma and misinformation are still some of the biggest reasons people do not seek help,” Ms Thorne said.
“This course promotes steps and pathways to support, reduces stigma and misinformation and empowers people to assist in a mental health crisis.”
Participants will learn more about depression, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders and substance use disorders and evidence-based interventions to encourage people to seek help.
“We encourage all community members to take up this opportunity, whether it is to increase knowledge, learn more skills to support friends, family, clients or work colleagues; or to build more capacity in your sporting or community group”, Ms Thorne said.
This course is made possible with the support of Edward River Council Community grants and Deni MHAG.
Spaces are limited and anyone interested in attending the course can email lourene@bigpond.com or text 0428 281 060.
