Rob Sceney, a member of the forward-thinking executive, is looking for an imaginative artist to tackle a mural project on the car park fence that runs from the clubhouse to the adjoining property.
In recent months the constant frustration of the Kyabram Project Committee with graffiti attacks has been widely publicised and the Church St sports club has not been immune from the vandalism.
The fence that faces directly on to Tulloch St has been defaced with the initials of anonymous vandals, who Mr Sceney suspects are probably responsible for the defacing of the water tank mural only a few hundred metres down the street.
Six fence panels that have been attacked by vandals are covered in black spray paint. At its latest meeting, the club’s leaders decided that a mural was a way of addressing the issue and giving the precinct a modern new look.
“We have an idea of what type of mural we want, but would love to hear from any artists out there that feel like they could create something that celebrates the club,” he said.
Mr Sceney said he was hopeful of creating a piece of art that was of interest to both the community and club members, reflecting the bowling club’s history and values.
“We want to involve artists of the town in making it (the bowling club) an area of interest for visitors to the town. It could be a great platform for artists to demonstrate their talents,” he said.
Mr Sceney said the public “call out’’ would hopefully result in artists being identified to complete murals on the fence, which is about a metre and a half high and stretches about eight metres.
The club hopes that creating something attractive on the fence, of which people could be proud, will prevent any future vandalism attacks.
“We also have a water tank on the northern side of the green, opposite the clubhouse, where we would like to have a large club emblem displayed,” Mr Sceney said.
“We would really like to make this a community project, rather than a professional job.”
