Shepparton was selected as one of three locations across the state that will play host to VicFishKids events.
Shepparton's clinics will be on Saturday, April 17, running from 10 am to 4 pm at the Victoria Park Lake. It coincides with the ‘Murray Codference’ that will be on the following Sunday at Riverlinks Eastbank Conference Centre from 9 am to 4 pm.
There will be Victorian Fisheries officers to chat about how to cast, handle a fish and responsible catching. Children who attend will receive a free fishing rod.
A Shepparton fishing club will be selected to help run the day, to provide inside knowledge on how to enjoy a new hobby and reel in their first fish.
Victorian Fishing and Boating Minister Melissa Horne said the clinics were a way for young people to get involved with fishing and learn the basics.
“The free clinics provide a great opportunity for families to get into Victoria’s great outdoors and spend quality time together.”
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said the clinics provided a way for parents to get their kids engaged in a new activity during the school holidays.
The two other places hosting the VicFishKids clinics are Tooradin and Torquay.
While the target age group is ages 6 to 12, those outside can still participate.
There are seven clinics throughout the day and each will run for about an hour.
