The Kangaroos will now front up against Dookie United at Nagambie on Sunday (September 3) in a bid to continue the dream run under new coach Sheree Starling.
In round five this year the Girgarre team lost by eight goals to Dookie, who finished the season third, one spot and two wins ahead of the Kangaroos.
Girgarre took three quarters to shake a determined Nagambie team at Murchison on Sunday and win through to the second round of the finals.
The 50-41 victory came after just two goals separated the teams at quarter time. That stretched to four the Kangaroos’ way by half time.
A 16-10 third term, influenced by 13 goals from captain Jacqui Gahan (38 goals for the match), was enough to ensure the win despite the Kangaroos being outscored by one in the final term.
Girgarre used nine players for the match, Teah Ryan and Ellie Walsh providing fresh legs in the second half.
Holly Nelson was a star in the centre and that allowed coach Starling to play a feeding role to Gahan in goals. Starling shot just 12 goals, but played a vital part in the win.
Abi Sergienko and Lilly Waasdorp combined to keep Nagambie to just 41 goals for the afternoon and allow Girgarre to progress in the premiership race.
Emily Uhe was the star of Stanhope’s B-grade elimination final against Tallygaroopna at Murchison on Sunday.
Uhe shot 27 goals in the win, supported initially by Holly McPhee and later by Jinaya Nurse, who came off the interchange to shoot 10 goals in three quarters.
The teams were level at half time and Stanhope led by just one at the final change before a dominant display from Uhe (10 goals in the final term) saw them shoot clear to a 48-40 victory.
Captain Ellie Turpin and Felicity Hall kept their opposition to just four goals in the final term, with Morgan Evans and Shanae Fisher starring in the mid-court.
Merrigum C-grade came from behind in its match with Shepparton East at Murchison on Sunday and will now face Stanhope in a cut-throat semi final at Nagambie on Sunday.
Merrigum trailed by one at quarter time and by four at the long break, then cut the margin to one at the final change.
Clare Doherty and Teneisha Deery combined to shoot 11 final-quarter goals, while captain Anna Bray and Blynda Tranter restricted their opponents to eight goals and gave Merrigum a 34-32 win.
Amy McFadyen and Ellie Rollinson played cameo roles in support of Paige Hogan and Kayla Speed in the victory.
Star Stanhope goaler Hayley Trevena led her team to a 12-goal win after it took three quarters to shake a determined Undera outfit.
Trevena shot nine goals in the first term and had 20 by half time as her team led by just three at the long break.
She worked with Emmerson Pulsoni for a majority of the game and, for a short time, Meg Millar, as the team shot 13 goals to seven in the final term and won 46-34.
Emily Argus started in defence with Bianca Atley, and later Teagan Morrison stepped into the defensive goal ring to restrict Undera goaling opportunities.
Amy Gillie shared the centre role with Amber Lunney and Charlotte Grealy as Stanhope moved into week two of the finals.
Girgarre’s under-15 team will now face Tallygaroopna at Nagambie on Sunday after winning through week one of the finals with a two-goal victory against Murchison-Toolamaba.
The 31-29 win came after McKenzie Parsons shot seven first quarter goals and then had second half support from Neve Pethybridge (11 goals) as the team recovered from a two-goal quarter time deficit to lead for the remainder of the match.
Chelsea Leocata started with eight goals, but the switch up came at half time and, thanks to the defensive team of Mia Munro and captain Jessie McDonald, the Girgarre team held tight to the final siren.
Mikayla Kuiper was the key to the mid-court, while Erin Graetz and Amaya Schubert provided mid-court support to vice captain Darcee McNeil.
