Jamie Waasdorp was named the 2002 McNamara Medallist, celebrating the win with his wife Moana, after a big season as coach of Rushworth.
A week earlier his younger brother, Adam, had won the Picola District Football League’s best-and-fairest award.
Waasdorp won the award by two votes from Ardmona goal-kicker Damien Yze. Lancaster’s Corey Carver and Rob Elborough finished in the top five of the count.
Stanhope veteran Gary “Scrapper’’ Farrow won the Wade Medal for reserves footballers, with Girgarre’s Craig Walsh runner-up, along with Lancaster’s Steve Webb and Merrigum star Jamie Moore.
The Under-18 Inch Medal was won by Stanhope’s Marcus Emmett.
– Former Kyabram premiership coach Peter White was named coach of Tongala.
He took the role on after Brad Campbell moved out of the role. Campbell had just won the club’s best-and-fairest award, from close friend Adam Brunt.
– Kyabram avoided the GVL wooden spoon with a four-point win against bottom team Mansfield.
The Bombers finished with three wins for the season, Justin Hooper and Heath Barnett kicking five goals each in the final round win.
Paul Newman also kicked four as Jarrod Chapman, Justin Hooper, Josh Vick and Dean Fleming contributed to a rare victory for the Bombers.
The Bombers’ under-18 team finished the home-and-away season fourth, Michael Orr and Mark Ciavarella kicking goals in the final round win against Mansfield.
David Langdon was the team’s best in the win, while Matt Finn and Michael Shaw also rated a mention.
– Lancaster lost the grand final to Ardmona, beaten by 46 points on the back of 10 goals from Damien Yze and five from brother Ramadan in the grand final.
The Wombats also lost the reserve grade grand final, by five points, to Avenel.
In the under-17 grand final Merrigum was a seven-point winner against Stanhope.
Casey Murnane was the Bulldogs’ best, along with skipper Ben Damshke and Francis Caldow, who kicked three goals.
For Stanhope Matt Sheers was its best player, kicking four of its seven goals, along with David Parsons and Col Williamson.
Merrigum was coached to the title by Leigh Hall.
– Haslem Street Black won the section one Kyabram Netball Association title, coached to victory by Michelle Mulholland.
