But unbeknownst to many of his patients, the general practitioner doubles as what he calls a documenter.
Now on show at the Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre isa collection by Dr Mackellar, titled A Pretty Nice Place.
The collection is home to more than 30 photographs, some from his travels overseas, but many focusing on his love and passion for Mooroopna.
“I’ve lived in Mooroopna for nearly 80 years and have been taking photos since I was about 10 years old,” Dr Mackellar said.
“I don’t consider myself an artist, but I document things.”
Dr Mackellar’s images capture a moment in time, from landscapes to family members and at times complete strangers.
His insight from being not only a part of the Mooroopna community, but also an observer, is shown in the candid shots covering the walls of MEAC.
“A lot of my pictures are just me getting out of bed and taking pictures of life,” he said.
“That’s what inspires me with photography, things I find interesting others may not consider.”
The exhibition is at the Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre until May 20. It is open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 3pm, and all works are for sale.
