Over two days, the foursome managed to snag 35 Murray cod between them.
“We caught some nice fish, but nothing too big,” Mr Fisher said.
“They would have been 65cm at the most, but that’s only because there’s not a lot of big ones about at the moment.
“They are yet to make their way back after the floods, but they will eventually come back.”
Mr Fisher said while he does not usually share his best fishing spots with people, he was happy to take Mr Classon to his favourite spot in the upper reaches of the Edward.
They fished the fast water surrounded by the Gulpa forest, where the only access is by kayak.
Mr Fisher said it is an element of local fishing tourism that is really taking off, and should increase after this episode airs.
“It’s hand to hand combat type stuff,” he described of the thrill of kayak fishing.
Mr Classon was also taken to fish in the Colligen Creek and around Four Post.
Dr Conallin also shared details of the Deniliquin Lagoons Restoration Project, which has seen the town’s storm water retention system become a series of parklands of ecological and environmental importance.
It is delivered by the Deniliquin Kolety Lagoon Landcare Group in partnership with key project partners and the community.
Now in its 12th season, the AFN Fishing Show airs Sunday afternoons on 7MATE!
A date for the Deniliquin episode has not yet been confirmed.
