Mother’s Day arrived eight days early for Rochester’s footballing ‘motherhood’ when the annual ladies day event coincided with the Tigers’ first win of the Goulburn Valley league season.

Winless before the weekend’s 11-point win against Tongala, the Ash Watson-coached team is now one of six teams with one win from the opening five games of the year and sits only two games outside the top six.
There was a strong contingent of senior footballing mums in the marquee that held pride of place at the town end of Moon Oval and the participants in the Ladies Day event were kept on the edge of their seats when the two teams were tied at three-quarter time.
Among those watching on were Christine Hooppell (mother of Hamish), Barbara McCarty (Nathan), Kerri McPhee (Adam), Rachel Cleary (Fraser) and Christina Atley (Joe and Jacob).
