A self-confessed ‘city girl’, she had to learn quickly what life on the farm was like.
It seems Kaitie took to it quite well, and is now sharing her own experiences to help others become accustomed to life on the land.
Through her website ‘First Time Farmer’, she aims to inspire individuals as they embark on their own journey, by providing tools, mentorship and a sense of belonging to ensure a fulfilling rural lifestyle.
Her advice is both inciteful and humorous, and Kaitie will share those experiences with locals when she headlines two International Women’s Day events early next month.
She will be the guest speaker at Murray River Council’s ‘Long Lunch’ in Barham on Friday, March 7, and then later the same day at Edward River Council’s Women's Day Dinner in Deniliquin.
Kaitie describes herself as a resilient mother of two, who decided to leave behind the comforts of city life for her husband’s family farm in the midst of a devastating drought.
Despite her initial enthusiasm, the harsh realities of relocating to a farm and the relentless uncertainty of farm life took a toll on her mental health.
Kaitie refused to let adversity define her, however.
With unwavering determination and a lack of farm skills, she turned to social media as a way to connect with fellow first-time farmers, sharing her story and offering support and guidance to those navigating the challenges of transitioning from the city to the country life.
By building an online community, she aims to foster a sense of belonging, provide encouragement and help others to navigate their First time Farmer journey one laugh at a time.
Murray River Council’s celebrations will be hosted in Riverside Park, Barham, with catering by Koondrook’s Long Paddock Food Store.
Tickets to the event are now available for $40, which includes lunch and non-alcoholic refreshments.
The event will be set up as tables in the park.
Murray River’s acting CEO Sarah Ryan said the event is a great opportunity to connect with other women in the local community.
“It will be a fun and relaxed event where attendees can enjoy great company, amazing food and be inspired by stories from our special guest, Kaitie,” she said.
“It’s also a great opportunity for community members to come together, meet new people and mark the achievements of the remarkable women in our lives.
“We’d love to see lots of community members joining us.
“I’d encourage local women to grab a table of friends together and book your tickets so you don’t miss out!”
The Edward River Council event will be held at the Deniliquin Town Hall on March 7, from 6.30pm to 10pm.
Guests will receive a welcome drink on arrival, and dinner and dessert will be provided.
Soft drinks are included in the ticket price, and a bar will be open for other purchases.
