Fire restrictions to lift in Greater Shepparton

CFA deputy chief officer for the north-east Gavin Thompson said fire behaviour had eased significantly.

“We have seen a reduction in call-outs to grass and scrub fires over the last several weeks,” Mr Thompson said.

“Most nights we have been seeing dew appearing and some parts of the area have even seen their first frost.”

Landowners conducting burn-offs must register them at www.firepermits.vic.gov.au to prevent unnecessary emergency responses.

They should also notify neighbours, maintain a three-metre firebreak clear of flammable materials and ensure adequate equipment and water are available to control fires.

The CFA advises residents to monitor weather conditions, particularly wind, and never leave burn-offs unattended.

If a fire gets out of control, call 000 immediately.
