An extra 15m x 8m will be added after a funding announcement of $57,655.90 by the Victorian State Government last week.
“We need the extra space for our woodworking jobs and ease of movement,” president Max Cofield said.
“We applied for the grant last year and have plans drawn up.
“We’re quite excited about the plans and we hope the local builder can start this year.”
Located in Reserve Road in the Wahgunyah Football Netball Club grounds, Wahgunyah Men’s Shed was established in 2016.
A verandah at the shed’s front was built in July 2022.
There are 16 members, the oldest being 97-year-old Bill Fenn.
Men’s Sheds are more than just a place to tinker, they’re an important support network for men right across Victoria helping them to learn important skills from woodworking to home repairs, while providing a sense of purpose and community.
"By investing in Men’s Sheds, we are supporting spaces that create a sense of belonging, contributing to the health and wellbeing of the Indigo Shire community,” Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said.
Mr Cofield agreed.
“We focus a lot on friendship, and we solve the problems of the world,” he said.
Ms Symes announced two Men’s Sheds in the Indigo Shire will receive funding as part of the 2024-25 Men’s Shed Funding Program, ensuring they have welcoming and well-equipped spaces to work on projects, make friends and access support.
