After spending five years working in Shepparton as a priest for St Brendan’s, Fr Galea now travels the world spreading his message of love and hope through music.
Fr Galea is signed to a record label in the United States and was back in Shepparton to promote his new album Coming Home.
It is the first time Fr Galea and his band had toured Australia and he said it was great to be back in Shepparton.
“This is my home, this is where I spend a lot of my time,” Fr Galea said.
“I love the Shepp people.
“This is the first parish I ever worked in as a priest and so it’s a place that’s close to my heart,” he said.
More than 300 people braved the cold to watch the performance.
Fr Galea said he wanted to perform in Shepparton as it was significant to the journey he had been on in the past few years.
“I want people to leave the performance feeling they are loved, that they have purpose, and to feel that there is joy even through the struggles,” he said.
“People have an oasis of hope that they can access through their faith,” he said.
The audience was overwhelmed with joy as the band played a mixture of songs from its seven albums.
Fr Galea described his music as a mixture of pop and rock.
The band will also perform in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane as part of their Coming Home concert tour.
Fr Galea began singing during his teenage years after experiencing “an intense episode” of addiction and depression which led him to find help through the Catholic faith.
The visit to Shepparton was made even more special as he received a call on Saturday to say that his book Breakthrough is being made into a Hollywood movie.
