The free healthy ageing program is designed for people aged 65+ and over who have fallen in the past 12 months or are fearful of falling.
The seven-week program is facilitated by Intereach Aged Care Services team members Emma Bilston and Audra Holden.
“The program helps older people keep their independence and gives them confidence in their mobility, so they are able to go about their daily activities safely and without the fear of falling,” Emma said.
“During the sessions, we will show you some simple exercises to improve strength and balance.
“We will also have some education sessions from other local health professionals on a different topic each week, including home hazards, community safety, footwear, vision and medicines.”
About one in three people aged over 65 fall each year, with many causing injuries and some requiring a stay in hospital.
Stepping On has been rolled out to more than 30 communities across the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
The weekly sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 10am to 12pm at Intereach Corowa, Shops 18-20 Corowa Arcade, 109-111 Sanger St. A light morning tea is provided.
Starting on Tuesday, February 11, the program will run for seven weeks, followed by a refresher session two months later.
