Several lines on the V/Line network will be operating on extreme heat timetables this weekend.
Beginning on Saturday, February 22, services on the Ararat, Ballarat, Maryborough, Seymour, Shepparton, Geelong and Warrnambool lines will run on a full extreme heat timetable, with speed restrictions enforced.
Such timetables come into effect when temperatures exceed 36℃.
The high in Shepparton on Saturday is forecast to be 37℃.
Extreme heat speed restrictions aim to reduce the likelihood of train and track faults during high temperatures, while also keeping passengers safe.
There will be drinking water on board trains and passengers are also encouraged to travel with bottled water and wear cool clothing.
Additionally, coaches will replace trains on the Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines the entire journey until Wednesday, March 5 due to annual V/Line maintenance works.
Passengers on these lines should allow an additional 90 minutes travel time, according to the Department of Transport.
Over the weekend, all passengers are urged to check timetables on the V/Line webiste before travelling to see if there are any changes to their service, and to allow for extra time when necessary.
