The operating rules for Bunbartha’s Loch Garry are set to be reviewed by a new reference committee, with interested community members encouraged to throw their hat in the ring.
Goulburn-Murray Water is calling for expressions of interest from community members to be part of the committee, which will review the service requirements of the Loch Garry Flood Protection District infrastructure and its operating rules.
The infrastructure provides protection from minor to moderate flooding for downstream landowners, but during larger events the regulator is opened to allow flows to follow their natural course.
The operation of Loch Garry was questioned by local landowners impacted by the October floods and a full review was announced by G-MW.
The Loch Garry Flood Protection Operating Rules outline how G-MW manages the regulator.
G-MW incident and recovery general manager Peter Clydesdale said he was eager to see expressions of interest from a diverse range of community members to take part in the review.
“We want to ensure all opinions are heard,” he said.
“While the Loch Garry Reference Committee will drive the review, all interested customers and community members will have the opportunity to give feedback on the service requirements of Loch Garry and its operating rules.”
The reference committee will include Loch Garry Flood Protection customers, community representatives, Traditional Owners and nominated agencies.
Places on the committee are limited and expressions of interest will be assessed against a selection criterion, to ensure broad representation and experience on the committee.
