The Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants support initiatives focused on sustainable food production, waste management improvement, and native habitat enhancement.
For instance, Altona College in Victoria utilised its grant to establish a frog-friendly habitat, benefiting local frog populations and managing mosquitoes in the area.
Woolworths Kyabram store manager Sally Carver emphasised the program’s goal of fostering engaging learning experiences that connect younger generations with nature.
“The Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants program is all about supporting fun and engaging learning experiences that can help younger generations connect with natural environments,” she said.
“Our store team across Kyabram have been proud to connect with local schools who have previously been awarded a grant.
“It’s been great to hear how the funding has helped enhance local school communities and support students as they get outdoors and learn more about the local environment.”
Since its inception in 2018, the program has allocated over $5 million to nearly 5000 primary schools and early learning centres nationwide.
This initiative has enabled over 400,000 students to engage hands-on with environmental conservation in their communities.
Landcare Australia CEO Shane Norrish highlighted the positive impact of outdoor activities on children’s mental health and wellbeing.
“The partnership between Woolworths and Landcare Australia has enabled hundreds of educators an opportunity to provide meaningful environmental education programs,” he said.
“These programs offer experiences that are helping children learn how they can care for the land and be the next generation of Landcare leaders.”
Applications for the program are now open until March 19.
